Parashat Matot

Bamidbar (Numbers) 30:1-32:42

Parshat Matot begins with laws about vows and oaths, emphasizing the importance of keeping one’s word. Moses explains how vows can be annulled in certain cases, especially by a father or husband in the case of a woman.

The portion then describes the war against the Midianites, in which the Israelites are commanded by Hashem to take vengeance for the wrongs the Midianites did. After the battle, the soldiers return with spoils, and Moses teaches how to divide them fairly among the warriors, the community, and the Levites.

Lastly, the tribes of Reuben and Gad (and half of Manasseh) request to settle on the eastern side of the Jordan River because the land is good for their livestock. Moses agrees, but only after they promise to help the rest of the Israelites conquer the land of Canaan first.

La Parashá Matot comienza con las leyes sobre votos y juramentos, subrayando la importancia de cumplir lo que uno promete. Moshé explica cómo ciertos votos pueden ser anulados, especialmente por un padre o esposo en el caso de una mujer.
